Update on the VU1 Bulb
Coming soon to a store near you: the VU1 R30 bulb, which uses Electron Stimulated Luminescence™ (ESL) technology.

Where is the VU1 bulb? I have not yet seen it on my supermarket shelf.
The VU1 R30 lamp became available Dec. 1 on the Lowe’s website and will be in stores in February. I did get a sample and feel that the quality of the light and the dimmability are very close to incandescent. It did surprise me, though, how hot the lamp got. I’ve been getting some reports back of early lamp failure when installed in a base-up position. I hear the company is replacing those lamps at no cost.
